Journaling

As some of you may know, I had a journaling website, Inspired to Journal, for about nine years. It was full of how-to articles, essays, contests and writing prompts. I also offered books, blank journals and workshops I had created. There was a writing group and a weekly newsletter of prompts and essays. I had thousands of readers.

I gave that up in 2009, feeling it was time for a change. This blog took its place, even though I swore I’d never have another website! But it’s just too much fun.

I have kept in touch with many of my old readers and journaling friends. They, along with new journaling friends, have encouraged me to do something along that line again, so I thought I would incorporate it into desert verde.

I have kept a journal since 1974, but always wrote as a kid. I started to really write when I was in middle school, back when we used to lock ourselves in our rooms for those tumultuous years. I cranked out poetry and prose, then in high school, I joined the Literary Society. In college, I started keeping a journal when my first major relationship was about to fall apart.

Journaling has been my savior in times of stress like that. When I was in a fix, I’d head to the notebook and write until my energy shifted or until I came up with a solution. I really credit writing with creating the person I am. My journals have straightened out my crooked roads, allowed me to explore and discover myself, and let me vent in a safe, non-judgmental arena. I have said things in my journal I would never say to a human being.

Being eco-friendly is holistic. It encompasses your entire being, including your mental health, so a section for journaling here in desert verde seems appropriate.

So, that said, watch for prompts in the Journaling category. Feel free to respond in your journal or on this site. This is not a password protected journaling site, so write at your own risk. On my old lists, lively conversations frequently grew out of the writing prompts.
